Welcome to the Finch Society of WA

The Finch Society of Western Australia is based in Perth, but has members worldwide as well as across Australia. Local members, non-members and guests are encouraged to attend general meetings, shows and auctions. We hope to help like-minded people to get in touch, share their birding experiences, ask questions and come join us to get the most out of our wonderful hobby.

A bit of history

The Finch Society was founded in 1982 by 6 passionate finch breeders.

The club was formed to cater for showing of finches. All the initial members were members of one or both of the Midland or Northern Districts Cage Bird Societies. Those clubs were generalist bird clubs but with a high leaning to canary breeders. The FSWA founders felt the need to promote the showing of finches in a better way. They intended to retain friendly ties to the two CBS clubs but to develop FSWA with a finch-specific orientation.

The objects of the Association are:

01

To foster the keeping and breeding of Australian (including zebra) finches, foreign finches, and other soft-billed birds.

02

To cater for the showing of the aforementioned birds.

03

To adopt standards for exhibition and breeding of such birds and endeavor to have them accepted by the cage bird societies of WA.

04

The first printed constitution added a 4th objective:

To promote good fellowship and understanding amongst members of other societies and encourage the presentation of suggestions that would contribute to the benefit of the society.
